About the catalogue
This This catalogue documents youth-led innovative solutions from seven countries – Bangladesh, China, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Mali, and Uganda – that were supported by Save the Children’s Youth Innovation Labs (YILs). These labs worked to enable disadvantaged and marginalised groups of youth, including youth in rural areas, out-of-school youth, young refugees, and youth with disabilities, to turn their ideas into real, impactful solutions that respond to the needs of their communities.
This catalogue is mainly developed to inspire adolescents and young people to act on the issues they care about, explore examples of youth-led action, and consider how they too can take the lead in solving challenges in their communities. At the same time, it is also useful for advocates and supporters of youth-led innovation—such as educators, donors, policymakers, and civil society organisations—who are committed to creating enabling environments for youth leadership and social entrepreneurship.
We have made sure that this catalogue is youth friendly. That means it uses simple, clear, and engaging language that speaks directly to young people. We’ve avoided technical terms and kept the tone accessible. The structure is easy to navigate, and wherever possible, we’ve included visuals, quotes from young innovators, and summaries to help readers quickly grasp the key ideas.
Some innovations have been presented by the youth innovators themselves through video format to support different learning needs and make the content more inclusive. We encourage you to explore these videos and gain an understanding of the innovations through their own voices and perspectives. Hearing directly from the youth innovators allows you to appreciate not just what they did, but why it mattered to them and their communities. These video presentations offer a deeper, more personal connection to the stories behind each solution—and might even spark new ideas or collaborations of your own.
